Waterloo Couple Evacuated From Hotel As Tsunami Heads Toward Hawaii: Kim and Brock Keckritz of Waterloo’s Hawaiian vacation on the island of Maui is being interrupted today because of a possible tsunami heading towards the island state. The tsunami is a result of an earthquake which hit Chile earlier today. The Keckritz’s were awakened this morning as a plane flew over the island warning people to evacuate to higher ground. Kim and Brock immediately  packed up and headed inland. They reported to family and friends back home that they are doing just fine and, despite this interruption, are enjoying the warmth and scenery of Hawaii.

 

Schneider’s Quality Meats Wins Awards At State Convention: Mark Lengacher, owner of Schneider’s Quality Meats, is reporting he won several awards during the annual Illinois Association of Meat Processors Convention this weekend in Champaign. Named grand champions were both Schneider’s bratwursts and wieners. Schneider’s summer sausage was awarded third place.  

 

Valmeyer Community Gathers For Annual Fish Fry And Music Marathon

Nearly 150 fish plate orders were sold Friday afternoon during the Valmeyer School’s annual Fish Fry and Music Marathon. Proceeds benefit the school’s music department.

are VHS Band Teacher Jasmine Logan, center, and students Kyle Feldker, left, and Jeremy Hill. Logan, who began teaching at Valmeyer just this year, reports that summer band camp will return to Valmeyer School after a decades-long absence. Logan also said she is excited to have students willing to dedicate part of their summer to learning things they do not have time for during the school year. Feldker mentioned he is in a band with Hill and Matt Long, not pictured, which has some dates booked for this summer.
