Fountain Inn Wins World Series Of Kloepper The cherished World Series Of Kloepper trophy will be hanging high this year at Fountain Inn. Their Kloepper league team finished in first place Monday night in the 33rd annual World Series of Kloepper. “I think our home field advantage really helped us outscore the opposing teams,” said longtime Fountain Kloepper player Willie Werling. The final scores after the eight rounds of play were Fountain Inn, 2,174; Acorns Golf Links, 2,122; Freeda’s Bar of Renault (last year’s winner), 2,076; Maeystown Sportsman’s Club, 2,036; and J.V.’s Downtown Bar and Grill, 2,004. The top individual players were Jim “Sleepy” Schmidt of the Fountain team, 276 points, and Karen Schrader of Acorns, 214 points. Schmidt and Schrader were crowned this year’s King and Queen of Kloepper.
In honor
of the best Kloepper players throughout the world gathering in Monroe County
last night, during the County Commissioner’s meeting Monday morning, Delbert
Wittenauer, Terry Liefer and Mike Kovarik signed a proclamation declaring
April 5, 2010 as Monroe County Kloepper Day.

High School’s Sports Wrap-Up:
In
baseball, it was Columbia over Metro-East Lutheran 13-2, Waterloo over
Freeburg 16-4, Gibault split a double-header with Marquette, and Red Bud
lost to Marissa 13-2. On the softball diamond, it was Freeburg over Waterloo
4-2. In girls’ soccer, Waterloo stayed unbeaten, downing Freeburg 6-1,
Columbia beat Mascoutah 6-0 and Gibault lost to St. Pius 2-0.
